An old wedding photograph of my grandparents, the late Agueda Urbano Peñaranda (from Iba, Zambales) and Agrefino Peñaranda (from Leyte).

They are the parents of Serafin, Marita, Manuel, Carding, Nani, Danilo, and their only surviving son, Toni.

The two first met in the home of Don Roman Cruz, a former judge who lived in Lamayan, Sta. Ana, Manila, during the 1930s. Lola Agueda worked as a nanny to Don Roman’s children, while Lolo Agrefino served as the judge’s personal driver.

Their union has grown into a family of roughly 200 descendants, and continues to grow to this day.

This photograph, taken prior to World War II, was shared with me by my late father, Danilo.
